Viral Marketing
A quick acceptance of product or passing of an offer to several site users via word of mouth and email referrals. Viral marketing occurs through encouragement of forwarding email addresses and site links.
Visibility
Refers to a website’ popularity in the search engine results pages and on the entire Internet. High quality search engine visibility results from on-page search engine optimization techniques and inbound link popularity. Other methods can include pay-per-click programs and submitting to search engine listing and directories.
Visit
The measurement of web page visitor activity. A visit is a single browser session that starts when the user enters a site until the user exits a site. Technically, a visit is a sequence of browser requests during a unique session. The visitor is identified by the a cookie, established when the session begins. The uniques browser session starts when the visitor opens a web page from another web page on another (different) domain. This means the referrer page is from an external web page. The visit terminates when the visitor exits the web page and opens an external web page. This is not a time dependent definition. If the visitor remains on the site for an extended period the “visit” continues. A visitor may enter the same site several times during one day, or other measured time period. Each of these will count as visits, but only the first visit will only the first visit will be counted for that particular user (unique visitor).

Visitor
Also referred to as “Unique Visitor.” It is a measurement of site visitor action counting the first action from the site visitor in a specific time period. The measurement itself occurs using placement of a cookie on user’s computer. The site visitor is identified by user agent, user’s IP address, and browser language settings.
Visitor Tracking System
A program used to count and report on the number of web page visitors. Typically developed using JavaScript and consisting of several links. Links will include: a web page with a tracking script, a link to the visitor’s originating browser, a database server to store and distribute the collected data and information about the web user’ computer.The tracking involves adding the Javascript or a reference to the Javascript on each page being monitored. The JavaScript makes a browser request (usually) for a very small image located on a tracking server . When the page is opened the program makes a new (unique) request the image from a different uniform resources locator (URL). The tracking Javascript loads a cookie file onto the site visitors browswers. This allows the tracking program to recognize returning site visitors, so unique site visitors can be recorded accurately. The procedure itself is entirely a background activitiy so site users are unaware of its activity. The tracking statistics are gathered very rapidly and available for analysis within seconds.
